How roles work
Hell Let Loose: Vietnam organizes each 50-player team into squads, and each squad is built from specialized roles. Roles are grouped into unit classes; together they cover command, infantry, recon, armor, helicopters and mortars.
The unit classes
| Class | Roles | |-------|-------| | Command | Commander | | Infantry | Squad Leader, Rifleman, Grenadier, Engineer, Medic, Special Forces, Machine Gunner | | Recon | Spotter, Sniper | | Armor | Tank Commander, Crewman | | Helicopter (US only) | Logistics Officer, Pilot | | Mortar Squad | Observer, Support, Gunner |
Good first roles
- Rifleman — learn the basics of movement, cover and objectives.
- Medic — keep your squad alive and learn positioning.
- Engineer — build nodes and garrisons; understand logistics.
Building a balanced squad
A good squad mixes fire and support. Pair a Squad Leader with riflemen and a Medic; add an Engineer when you need garrisons or nodes. Recon works best in pairs (Spotter + Sniper). Leave helicopters to US players who've practiced flying.
